ANNA KANDINSKY - VIOLIN

The Moscow-born violinist Anna Kandinsky completed her studies in music at Moscow Conservatoire and the Music Academy in Bern with postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London.
She has had successes at several international competitions and won the first prize at the Munich Konzertgesellschaft and at the Yehudi Menuhin Competition in Paris. She was subsequently invited by Lord Yehudi Menuhin to co-operate with him; having regular lessons with the great violinist, performing joint tours and concerts throughout Europe paved the way for her career as a soloist.
As a soloist, she has performed with renowned orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. She has made guest appearances at Wigmore Hall and the Barbican Centre in London, in the Philharmonia at Gasteig in Munich and the Residenz, in the Philharmonias in Moscow and St. Petersburg, in the Tonhalle in Zurich and the Konzerthaus in Vienna as well as at festivals in Schleswig-Holstein, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Copenhagen, Bad Kissingen and at the Salzburg Mozart Week. On the invitation of Valerij Gergiev, she has held concerts at the ‘White Nights’ in St. Petersburg and in Mikkeli in Finland, where she played Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto conducted by Gergiev. Her calendar includes regular performances with Yuri Bashmet at his festival on the island of Elba and concerts with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra under its Artistic Director, Alexander Rudin. Every year, she is a guest at the Oleg Kagan Music Festival in Tegernsee on the invitation of Natalia Gutman. Gidon Kremer invited her to his chamber music festival in Lockenhaus. With his Kremerata Baltica, she has played as a soloist and in the chamber music ensemble in all the major concert houses of Europe.
Her chamber music partners include Gidon Kremer and Natalia Gutman, as well as colleagues such as András Schiff, Lars Vogt, Mikhail Rudy, Nobuko Imai, Miklós Perényi and Wolfgang Sawallisch. In Austria, by choice she mainly works with the Altenberg Trio and pianists Paul Gulda and Christopher Hinterhuber. She is also a founding member of the string trio ‘Impression III’, which chiefly devotes itself to performing the works of European and Russian contemporary composers.
She has received invitations to hold master classes for violin from Western Europe to Russia, to all over Asia, including the Academy of Music in Saarbrücken, the Summer Music in Altensteig/Stuttgart, the Royal Academy and the Royal College in London, the Japanese Osaka Music Festival and the Shanghai Conservatoire in China.
Since 2012, she has been Professor of solo violin at the Joseph Haydn Conservatoire in Eisenstadt. Anna Kandinsky was appointed first violinist of the Razumovsky Quartet by the Razumovsky family and the society of the same name.

JOSEPH HAYDN CONSERVATORY

As a post-secondary educational institution of the Province of Burgenland, the Joseph Haydn Conservatory (JHC) in Eisenstadt educates students from all over the world in the fields of musical performance and pedagogy and in the development and valorisation of artistic research.
Through its wide-ranging courses of study, the JHC makes an important contribution to the cultural life of our region. Education to the highest level, marked by collegial cooperation and open and friendly communication among teachers, students and administration, is assured by a team of lecturers of international stature, intensive mentoring of our students, regular evaluation and constant improvement of teaching.
The teaching of ethical responsibility through and while dealing with aesthetical values is of equal importance to the acquisition of the highest possible professional qualifications and the social competences associated with them.
This is also the basis for the special attention paid by our institution to early education in the form of preparatory study (Youth Academy), which teaches children enthusiasm for music and art and offers them meaningful ways of shaping their lives.
Not only because of the school’s location is it named for the genius loci Joseph Haydn: his special position and enduring importance to serious Western music, which he developed and strengthened in his almost thirty years of service at Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, make him a central and seminal figure. His life and work are the basis for the guiding principles of our institution, which serves as a living monument to his art.
Haydn’s innovative power within traditional norms had an enduring influence and effect on the entire further musical development of the West and is exemplary for the productive, original and diverse contest between progress and tradition, norm and discontinuity, which is indispensable in a modern music school.
In the sense of Haydn’s words, “My music is understood throughout the world” lies the transcultural unifying force of the language of music which for us is a matter of course: the cultural diversity of Burgenland is the result of a demographic development which allows speakers of German, Hungarian, Croatian and other languages to live in peace with one another and which is also reflected artistically in the work of the other two great composers of the province, Franz Liszt und Jenö Takács.
This universal character of the language of music also manifests itself in the educational areas of popular music and crossover projects, international cooperation and participation in the European Erasmus Programme.
As an event centre the JHC conveys cultural values in the form of public artistic and academic activities, which provide an impulse for the growth of awareness of the importance of artistic reflection, supporting the development and valorisation of the arts as they are dealt with in society and everyday life.
